Karl Barth Archive

The Karl Barth Archive (KBA), which opened in September 1971 in Barth's former home at Bruderholzallee 26 in Basel, contains Barth's literary estate together with his personal library. It is supplemented with missing items where possible and is accessible to interested researchers.

The central task of the archive is to catalogue the library and the estate and to manage the editorial work on the Karl Barth Complete Edition.

The database was initially an internal tool for archive research and the preparation and editing of the Karl Barth edition. It was converted into a web-compatible archive database. In the process, the data could only be partially corrected. We are happy to correct any remaining errors and inconsistencies.

Many of the estate documents, most of which have been digitised, are accessible online here. The number of documents that can be viewed will be successively expanded in accordance with legal requirements.
